Hello vidders and vid-fans!
How is the vidding going? What are you working on - bingo related or not - and what have you been watching?
I wondered if folks wanted to talk about resources. Specifically source footage, but also audio. Where do you get your material these days?

I use https://www.playon.tv/cloud where you purchase credits to record from your streaming platforms.
I buy credits in bulk when they go on sale, so wind up paying something like $0.39 per recording. I think I have enough stockpiled to download the entire Netflix catalog at the moment.
Pros: it's easy to use and feels legally fine since I do subscribe to the streaming channels.
Cons: not all streaming works (Apple+ for example), and it letterboxes the source (which I've learned to live with because the quality seems fair).
For music, I scrape from YouTube these days. I'm uncertain if that makes for the best quality audio (slightly hard of hearing, so I'm not sure I would be able to tell).

Date: 2023-07-15 07:10 pm (UTC)I so want to know how everyone gets source clips. I feel like I'm definitely not doing it in the most efficient way.. I just use QuickTime to record like 1 minute clips off of streaming. It is slow and irritating and probably not the best quality. For audio, I buy the song off Amazon. I usually have digital credits since I opt for longer shipping times.

Date: 2023-07-15 08:04 pm (UTC)[I wish more stuff got physical releases or was possible to buy in mp4/mkv form like mp3s are]
tbh a bunch of times I've asked in the vidding discord if anyone has [x] (especially if I'm looking for something like cdramas without hardcoded subtitles or platform logos)
For music I usually buy it off bandcamp, Amazon or iTunes. If it's not available I look if it's available via my local library system on https://www.freegalmusic.com or as a physical CD. If all else fails I get if off Youtube.

Date: 2023-07-15 08:10 pm (UTC)Legend of Anle has been fun so far! I'm thinking about vidding it if I get a song idea (I'm kinda annoyed at where they put the hardsubs though, considering the show's aspect ratio).

Date: 2023-07-15 09:47 pm (UTC)By no hardsubs, do you mean no Mandarin hardsubs either? (I assumed those would still be there unless it gets licensed by Viki, Netflix, or Amazon)

Date: 2023-07-15 09:19 pm (UTC)If I can rip a source from blu-ray, then I will do that. Otherwise it is torrents for stuff on subscription services, or I use 4K Video Downloader to rip stuff off Youtube. (I have the paid version although I'm not sure now what the difference is! It was pretty cheap anyway.) In one instance I did end up using Bandicam to screencapture a show and it was a pain in the ass – especially when I realised my screen-dimmer had switched on partway through XD
I usually buy music through iTunes/Bandcamp/7digital, depending what's available where. But that's not specifically for vidding :P

Date: 2023-07-15 10:38 pm (UTC)As for getting my hands on footage, I ripped some of my DVD and Blu-Ray collection using WinX DVD ripper and a trial month of Make MKV (with Make MKV, I then used handbrake to convert the files so they'd be easier to use/get a smaller file size). For getting music, I purchase from Amazon, Bandcamp, or the artist's website in one case, make use of the library's CD collection, or worst case scenario, use a Firefox plugin (that I've forgotten the name of) to rip/convert from YouTube.
